Urgent help needed, how do I fill up the auto transmission fluid?
Hi all,
Sorry to just barge in and start askin questions but I need some urgent help! I'm going to drain the ATF and change the trans filter. Found the drain plug and I have a new gasket and bolts as well but where on earth do you fill the trans fluid back up?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Dave

Do you really need a drain plug if you are planning to replace the filter (and the gasket)?
You fill it through the tube under the hood that is used to check the ATF level
Have you tried search on the forum for the DIY?

Hah!
The fluid is refilled THROUGH THE DRAIN HOLE using special equipment.
There is NO dipstick tube and no other method with the 7-speed transmission. You of course didn't provide details, but if you can't find a dipstick tube you surely have the 7-speed in a 2006-or later model.
Doing ANYTHING on a Mercedes without first referencing official Mercedes procedures is a really bad idea.
Maybe on many 'merikun cars that are basically a lot like Model Ts, one can just "dive in," but that does NOT describe Mercedes.
You wouldn't believe the procedures for determining the correct quantity, but suffice it to say they specify use of the STAR DIAGNOSTICS computer system.

I'd call my dealer or sophisticated Mercedes independent and have vehicle flatbedded to them for finish work.

I was referencing ATF change on 5-speed transmission

You can still put the ATF through the tube. And of course without SDS or at least a dip stick the amount to put in is hard to determine.
And could you instead of flatbed tow it by the rear axle (7-speed hence not 4matic)
