After reading this thread and have done this job on my E320 sedan I decided to go for it on my 2004 E320 estate . I sprayed PB blaster the day before and prior to do the job . I also hit it with heat gun before attempting to loosen the plate and shock . I didn’t get the special tool but used a large channel locks (not good grip ) . The LARGE vice grip did the trick and I was able to turn the shaft 1 full turn before the shaft cracked !
I read a few more people had that happened to them . My advice is get the special tool and don’t risk have the shaft crack on you
anyone that had my luck was able to drill it out successfully?
