(another) oil change DIY - E320 Bluetec on Video using Extractor

Got a Mityvac extractor - worked pretty well. We'll see if it lasts.

Here's the (edited) video:

Enjoy.

Outstanding video!

It always amazes me when people claim that the Mityvac takes 45 minutes to evacuate the oil. That's just plain wrong. People fail to realize that you need to vent the crank case, by pulling the filter, or opening the fill cap. I can do a full change in 30 minutes, as long as I pre-heat the oil.

Also, I can't belive how short the filter stalk is on the CDI, compared to the gasoline engines. On mine, that stalk is about 10 inches and has 4 graduated rubber o-rings.

Suggestion: Instead of installing the filter and filling through the fill cap with a funnel, just pour it right down the huge opening, where the filter goes. Makes refilling super quick and you're less likely to spill.

Great video, thanks for sharing!

I buy my oil in bulk, when I find it on sale. I'll literally buy 40-60 qts at a time, when I find it for 4-5$ a qt. I always purchase my filters at the dealer.

You could buy most of the parts online at Autohaus. I usually get all my oil filters, air filters and other parts from them. Rockauto also has OEM parts for a bit better price.

Oil is best stocked when on sale. Usually $4-$5 a quart. Kragen and O'Reilly have sales at least once a quarter.

I bought this extractor from Costco. Well worth it. I've extracted oil from 2 transmissions and 3 engines so far since getting it in April. Works great. I mainly use the manual pump, as it takes a while for my compressor to get up to the PSI range that is needed to extract the oil. Cleaning is somewhat of a bother, but that's the only downside.
