08 E550 - strange sound of pump running? (video incld)

I've had my 08 E550 since new. 40k miles this week. I've heard all the various sounds the various systems make.
Today, there is a new sound and although there are no error codes, it doesn't sound right, nor does it go away.
It is pretty loud, coming from the driver's side near the front tire area. It is loud enough that I heard it in a busy parking lot after coming back from a store. I drove the car home and it is pretty loud.
It sounds like a pump running and I'm afraid its going to discharge the battery in the process.
Any help would be appreciated!

update - shortly after this post, A LOT of smoke started coming out. MB Roadside rushed someone over who unplugged the battery and they are sending a tow truck over.
