Did you follow the procedure for replenishing the fluid? Did you use MB fluid? How are you measuring how much fluid is in transmission?

I drained the converter thru it's plug and flushed the cooler thru the return line . I used the MB dipstick to measure fluid . The Trans is better than ever after the change . Fluid used was from MB dealer which I found out from Mobil is Dex lll . Next time I will use their Syn atf which has the MB 236.1 spec on the label . Car has 84,000 miles . Any help would be appreciated .

There is no drain plug on the torque converter. Only drain plug is on the transmission pan.

The correct fluid is not Dextron III, It is MB Spec 236.14. Shell makes an MB approved fluid that is commerically available for about $5.50 a quart -- Shell ATF 134. Mobil also has a ATF 134 that is 236.14 approved.

The transmission fluid must be checked with it at operating temp (80c) with the engine running.

Cannot think of anything you could do to the transmission changing the fluid that would cause your current issue with engine.

Double check the electrical connection to the transmission. Make sure the O ring is not seeping trans fluid into electrical connection.

I re-checked my work and all electrical connections in the area of the Trans . There is no oil or oring leaks everything is clean and dry . I have given up and am willing to send it to my shop on Monday 7/11 at 9am . The shop mentioned a Trans computer reset could be the possible problem .

I will post the results of my bend over and grease up the *%$ job from the shop when I get it back . They do good work and I love this car so I guess I will learn an expensive lesson for doing a little work to save the $480 they wanted to change the fluid . The local MB Stealer quoted $740 ! Ouch !

I will keep U posted

That is how it is up here in wonderful Massachusetts . The $480 was a good Indy and the $740 was a high end dealer in Norwood MA .

I have rechecked everything and there are no leaks or pulled out wires . My local Independent scanned it and found no codes or problems . The Indy said the rail pressure spikes when the engine cuts out . He charged me nothing and advised me to bring it to the dealer . It is there now for 3 days ( since 7/14 ) and they are not having much success . The dealer has a $125 fee to diagnose the problem and has turned up nothing yet . All advice is welcome and I will post the results when this nightmare is over .

Interesting that no fault codes are stored, it “may” be the pressure regulator valve (14) – recheck connection. Note in the event of a faulty pressure regulator valve or an external leak between the rail and the pressure regulator valve, MB requires entire rail replacement.

7/19/11 ... Stealer called today for a little grease and insert session . MB in Germany says replace engine ECM . Problem has nothing to do with Trans fluid change . One year warranty on parts + Labor on ECM . Price is $1550 + labor total $1861 . When I asked what if this doesn't fix it what happens , Stealer replied " That's what MB says to do and if it doesn't fix in more diagnostic work will be needed " . The way I see that is MB is taking a guess on my dime , I hope they are right . I should know on 7/22 and will update .

No matter what happens , it is disgraceful that a 2006 car needs a new ECM !

Did they give you any idea why it could have gone bad?
Ask at that price if you get to keep the old part.
So if its not bad you can have it to sell to recover some money or if the dealer will buy it back.

My car has returned at last on 7/22 from the Dealer . The ECM has fixed the problem . I have the old ECM which is a Bosch part # A 648 150 42 79 it was in a MB box with the same part # . Labor was $248 / parts 1563 / fuel 20 ( they put over 109 miles on the car ) / 29 misc ( special MB grease charge to ease the pain ) / Tax 112 .
The only thing that I can say I did during the Trans oil change that might have caused this was playing the radio for 2 hours with the key on . The car was absolutely fine prior to the fluid change . It came off the ramps for a test drive and the problem was immediately there . All mechanics have said it was a coincidence , but I find that hard to believe . Please learn from my mistakes !

On a more positive note , The Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF which states on the bottle it meets MB spec 236.1 / 236.2 / 236.5 / 236.6 / 236.7 / and 236.9 has made a great improvement in the trans shifting . On the Mobil web site they won't state this and after calling a tech at Mobil they did finally admit that it would work OK in my MB . I have talked to my Mobil rep as we by 55 gallon drums of there products and he stated that MB is not in the oil business and specs out all there fluids . MB has a glut of this fluid at $22 a qt and wants to get rid of it and Mobil has taken the spec off the label on all new packaging . The tech I talked to on the phone said it was older packaging that I had and the newer bottles have no mention of the MB spec . This is MB trying to do its typical nonsense in my opinion .

Thanks for all your input . Best wishes
