- Mercedes Benz E Class AMG: How to Replace the Starter?
Step by step instructions for do-it-yourself repairs
Keyless go starter button
Keyless go starter button
Hi,
My E500 keyless go start button (in the shifter) doesn't work anymore. All other aspects of the system work properly, including the lock/unlock feature on the door handles. I've replaced the shift knob and button, to no avail. I've heard that there may be a broken wire in the shifter assembly that needs to get replaced. Does anyone know if this is the case, and if it's a DIYable repair? Thanks much in advance for any insight.

Hey, just wondering what you ended up figuring out, if at all? - I'm having the same problem. At first I was able to jiggle it a little and it would work. Sometimes while turning on and sometimes when turning off, that's how I know it's not the brake light switch.
bump....I am having the same issue. The start button doesn't do anything whether the brake pedal is pushed in or not.
(Also, 3 of my 4 door handles do NOT work when trying to keyless open the doors, but I believe that the handles themselves are faulty.....as I went in with STAR and actuated each individual door to open)
Any updates?

ok I have disassembled the shifter and the button and found the problem. Long story short I broke the very delicate switch.
PLEASE tell me Mercedes sells the START/STOP switch separately. If so, what is the part number?

Well I didnt really FU the ignition switch it was broken to start haha
But yes I am talking about the actual ignition START/STOP button within the shfter itself.
And by god is it expensive for just a little switch! EDIT*** That is the wrong part...Here is what I am talking about:

That's a great sticky. The pictures make the shifter look like something you might design if you wanted to fatigue the wire intentionally
I have keyless go and it is currently working, but I might take mine apart and wrap electrical tape around the wire to reinforce it where it goes through that hole. It's obviously just bending against that hard edge.

Well that was interesting. The black plastic sleeve on mine had split all the way around but the wires were still intact. Coming out of the hole I folded the wires straight up and used a small wire tie to hold the wire to the shifter. Now the wire is in a graceful curve and not moving against a hard metal edge. If you haven't had a problem with your keyless go yet you might want to try this to prevent a much harder repair down the road.
The only problem I see with that is that the wire moves back and forth with the movement of the shifter and now it doesn't. So it will flex every time you move it and, because the wires are so thin, they will eventually break at the flex point.
The solution I see, and one the factory should have used, is to put a small, split, rubber grommet in the hole.

Button Jammed In
I have the keyless go and the button on mine is jammed in and does not pop back up. It's been that way since I got it. It does not affect the operation of the vehicle. It is kind of a bummer that I can't use the start/stop feature though...
Any ideas?

I miss that feature.
