Looking for the Antenna Amplifier on a Wagon

I have a 2005 E55 Wagon and am looking for the antenna amplifier and instructions on how to get to it. I know it is likely behind the C-pillar area on sedans but want to make sure where to go before I rip the car apart. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like my available part is different from yours.

Good luck!

Can't thank you enough. Exactly the info I was looking for. Can you also let me know where you found that diagram and the part number? I am new to mb but we had something similar for BMW and it was extremely useful. Thanks again.

Amazing. Thank you! So if I subsribe, will I be able to get instructions for accessing the antenna amp?

Also, do you have any idea if that part you listed is the one that controls the radio frequency that drives key lock/unlock and radio reception?

I'm not sure that part is 'above the door'. I've had that part of my wagon apart a few times and don't remember a module like that in the upper tailgate trim or above the headliner at the rear of the car. Hopefully further diagrams can give you better info. If you need any help removing interior/exterior trim, I'll be glad to point you in the right direction.

Cheers,

Smash

Thanks smash. I think you are right. From what I have heard, and from the looks of it n that diagram posted, the amp Is in the very rear of the driver's side in the d-pillar, not actually note lift gate. I couldn't find out how to access this area though. Any ideas?

Basically, since I got the car, I have had bad radio reception and the radio frequency for the key lock/unlock function doesn't work unless you are very close to the driver's door. I have narrowed the culprit down to the amp. Since it is a cheap part, I was hoping to buy a new one for $100 and install it to see if that does the trick.

So I figured out the amp is number 10 in that diagram. Still can't figure outvhow to get to it though. Has anybody done this before? There is no easy way to remove the headliner on the drivers side to look behind it!

Sorry so long to reply - first, I'm not convinced that there is a module bedind the D pillar trim. I have pulled that panel out, and don't remember anything up there. It's not a simple job; so confirm the location first.

To remove the panel, first take out the carpeted side panel and unscrew the hex screws holding the left side cargo cover track guide, and the worm gear transmission on that side. You'll also have to remove the C-pillar trim. Pull the cover track out of the D pillar panel and you can remove all the mechanical components from the panel now. Then pull down on the front of the panel, near the seatbelt upper anchor. The rear of the D pillar panel now slides forward and up off it's plastic anchors. The headliner will be in the way slightly but I think it can be removed with the headliner in place. You don't want to have to remove the headliner.....trust me.

But...remember I don't think there is anything up there except the tailgate lift mechanism. Fully research the location of that component first.

HTH,

Smash
