What do you need to know? It is pretty straight forward. Find places to mount the ballasts. Like radiator mount brackets. Hopefully you got a plug and play kit that is 55 watt to match your existing light system.

Well, I see there's a wire connect to the H7 bulbs, and it seem that I can't un-hook it off, look like is welded on there..??

i used MTEC HID, I bought it from Ebay for $250 in 2008, worked perfectly, plug & play. There was no issue with MTEC HID for my 2008 E350 W211 4matic. Unfortunately, 2 wk ago, one ballast was flakey, it needs to be replaced. Other than that, I am happy with MTEC. It is more expensive than any other brand I see.

You should have no problem DIY. Access to headlight bulbs is very difficult becauase of tight space around the headlight.

Hi. That is actually my question... do I just need to work in that tight area or should I remove the headlight assembly? If I remove the headlight assembly, do I need to remove the bumper too? If so, I guess I'm working in the tight area

Also, do I need to drill a hole in the cap to put the wires through?

Thanks!

Thanks in adavnce,
I didn't take pictures, but I just converted mine to HIDs 2 nights ago. Let me say that it was NOT fun, because the space is so tight and you have to basically have to put the bulb in blindly.

My suggestions:

1. Wear surgical gloves
2. When you're just about to put the bulb in, wipe it down first with rubbing alcohol (I know I said to wear gloves, but it doesn't hurt)
3. If the prongs on your clips are spread out too far, push those back in or else it will be tough to twist the bulb assembly back in
4. If your HID kit does NOT have a grommet like mine didn't and you need to drill a hole in your dust cover, go buy grommets (I bought mine at O'Reilly's Auto)
5. Buy a bag of long black zip ties at the auto parts store
6. Before you put everything together and zip tie everything down, connect everything first to make sure the lights work

Because your car is newer, you may have more space than me

Have fun!

whoaaaaa wait, these cars are 55w from the factory?? I didn't know that..just ordered a 35w kit for headlamps and fogs.

I'm pretty well versed in HID lighting, but not aware if there are any issues with using 35w products on a 55w system...any advice?

Can you be more specific on the grommet issue? Are they on the bulbs or with the power units. Did you get the 35 or 55 watt bulbs? Lastly, do you have any pictures of the light pattern? THANKS!

same here, order a 35w mtec and now order another set of 55w. hope some one can tell us is there any problem or not. don't know which one to use now. and do we have to reuse the OE light bulb metal clip to hold the bulb in?

check out my post in the HID sticky at the top of the forum. I went through the install and my 35w kit is running fine w/ error eliminators. I don't think it's a problem to use a 35w kit as it's less wattage than the system is used to putting out for the halogens.

Yes, you do need to reuse the clip if the mtec kit was like mine. It's stainless spring steel, so you'll need a dremel to notch it to get the HID bulb's wires through.

ok, my mtec kit haven't arrive yet, does it have a proper mating connector to connect to the oe harness or just 2 wire that you have to stick it in and tape it?

here is a webside that shows a proper connector. http://www.kbcarstuff.com/Xtreme-Dig...s-p/xt-hid.htm

I did not buy an Mtec kit. My kit was from DDMtuning. It had two wires with blade connectors that went into the factory H7 connector.

oh....now back to the metal clip. what is it for, I thought you just put in the bulb and turn it to lock it in and the metal clip just to hold the OE connector in place so it won't fall off. am I correct???? and did you tape the blade connector or just let it open?

nope, the bulb goes into the opening, the clip goes around the base of the bulb and you twist it so that the two tabs on the clip catch the hooks, providing the tension to hold the bulb into place.

Hi all. I just finished installing a Hid kit into my low beams. I found a good place to put the ballasts. Now I want to also change the high beams to xenon.
I wonder if i can put the ballasts together, I mean 2 on driver side and 2 on passenger side but the actual boxes taped or something together? Or do they have to be separated, also do they start to interfere with the radio and such?

Every tip is welcome, thank you!

As long as they're mounted securely it should be okay. But why would you want to put HID's on your high beams? Do you use high beams in conjunction with low beams all the time? Or do you only use it to flash people from time to time?

Thank you,

I do use them all the time as I live in Finland where it is badically dark half of the year. Really dark. So the more light the better
