Horrible Vibration when Braking

Hey all,

I just got an 05 E500 4 matic. The car drives fine but when it brakes, it wobbles and vibrates like crazy. It really feels like there's an earthquake going on in the car. The guy inspecting the car said there was nothing wrong with the pads and rotors. Does anyone have a clue what the issue is? When slowing down, you can see the car wobble from left to right like the wheel is bent, but the ride is smooth when driving or accelerating. I'm very confused.

Do not know if this matters, but the SRS failure message is there. The brakes also work, just extreme vibration and sometimes it feels like it won't make the stop in time.

Any thoughts will be helpful. Thank you.

u bought a car with an srs failure light? my first suggestion would be the rotors and i would HIGHLY recommend you have the car inspected somewhere else just for a second opinion. a dealer would be preferable, you dont have to do the work there but have them take a look at the car. did you do a ppi before you purchased? i would never buy a car that has an srs malfunction.

This strong vibration and pulsing is almost always the rotors and brake problem. Definitely get a second opinion.

Sorry, I did not purchase. The car has fallen into my lap against my will....
I plan to take it to my dealer once I get it into thenstate. Pep Boys told me the rotors were fine so we will see what dealer says. Thanks guys.

Another round of ICE
Don't wait a moment longer than necessary. It hasn't been explicitly mentioned here, but SRS stands for Supplemental Restraint System, and suggests you are likely driving without air bags.

I called the dealer and SRS is still covered under warranty. I'm more worried about the extreme breaking issue. All asked say it's probably a bent rotor. I'm hoping that's all it is, but didn't know if this was an issue with other W211s.

I'm new to the W211 forum so I'm trying to figure out how reliable a 05 W211 is. The car has 57000 miles so hopefully I'll be able to use it for a lot more miles.

One poster said they hit 100k and the car is still rolling strong so that's encouraging.

^I have 84,000 on my '04 and it is solid as a rock. I'm replacing some bent rims right now due to our bad roads and soft OEM Rucha wheels along with a new set of Continental Extreme Contact tires. I expect to drive this thing for at least another 20-30K before unloading it. They are great cars.
