CPO - Quality Question

My 08 E550 was purchased CPO only 3 months ago.

When I bought it, it had a slight gash on the trunk where it looked like the previous owner closed a garage door on it, and inside, above the seatbelt (passenger side wall) there is a stain on the gray fabric, which almost looks like a soda stain. No idea what it is, but that's what it looks like.

Now that i'm reading about the MB CPO stuff, should either of these been there, considering it's CPO? Did the dealership skirt by what they're required to do, to make it CPO?

And icing on the cake, my floor mats look kinda rough, the metal emblem that says mercedes-benz is beyond scuffed up. I read somewhere else that CPO comes with new floor mats!

So guys, tell me what's true.

I realize it's a used car, and was ok with the condition, but if it's supposed to be another way, I would expect to get what I "paid for", and what MB promises to deliver.

Did my dealership screw me?

Why did you buy it if you weren't happy w/ it? Seems like your screwed yourself.

Please read what I said.

I was and am happy with what I got.

But IF I am "entitled" to a certain thing by buying CPO, then that's another story.

I'm simply asking what MB's policy is, and if I should have gotten new floor mats, and had this little cosmetic stuff repaired by the stealership in order for it to be sold CPO (with the cost of CPO)

Thanks for being an ***, though.

Another round of ICE
http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/cpo/multipoint_inspection

The list of items is shown, but it does not show at what point an item requires replacement.

Edit: Found this copy in their online brochure:

Appearance standards
A Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned vehicle is a
clean-skinned beauty, as free of dings, dents, rips, visible
scratches, and scuffs as we can make possible, with highquality fit and finish inside and out

"As we can make possible"...open to interpretation...a point of inquiry to MBUSA.

My present '08 is, and previous '04 was, CPO. They both came with assorted minor cosmetic damage and 'evidence of use'. But there's a couple of functional items on the '08 that I expect them to address (likely under the remaining New Car Warranty).

The Lease Return Policy (probably the primary source of supply for the CPO program) allows most damage so long as it fits behind a credit card. It seems likely that many CPO cars would include such minor and visible damage as part of the deal.

Dealers probably have access to independent specialists that can make such damage disappear for low hundreds of dollars. If the free repair isn't avaiable, then a very cheap repair would be a good 2nd choice. So keep it in mind that the dealer might be able help with this Plan B.

Good luck.

When you pay around $5K over for a CPO car you deserve a car without blemishes like the ones you are referring to. I agree with the other poster in that you probably screwed yourself by accepting a car in this condition, as the car is now yours, imperfections and all. For the future remember to do a thorough pre-purchase inspection and if you are paying a premium for a CPO vehicle, don't accept a car with such major defects. Having said that, it sounds like your dealer totally glossed over a bunch of CPO requirements.

My CPO 2007 E550 came with new floor mats and when they found a small blemish on one of the side mirrors, they replaced the entire cover. Apart from a few very minor scuffs and dents that you can only see when you are a couple of inches from the paint and looking at the car from a certain angle, the car is in virtually pristine condition and this is what I'd expect a CPO vehicle to be. I specifically asked them for an itemized invoice of everything they did to get the car up to CPO specs and they produced an invoice that totaled about $4K of work so combined with the extra warranty, the CPO route made a lot of sense to me.

It's really going to be tough to get the dealer to fix paint blemishes and interior trim once the car has been purchased. I think at the least you can try to tell them they have not delivered a car to you that meets the CPO standards and at least give you new floor mats, which will make the interior nicer right away.

What is more concerning to me is that with such gaping issue, if they looked over the internals of the car as they were supposed to. It sounds to me like they hardly did anything to CPO the car! They are supposed to do the next upcoming service for you and check and replace any brake components that might otherwise fail in the near future such as pads and rotors and I hope for your sake they did this. Though it is a bit too late, you might want to ask them to show you an invoice of everything that was done to get the car up to CPO standards.
