Stung by Fake mtec xenon kit? Here's your Solution
I purchased a mtec Xenon kit from ebay that claimed that he had sold his W211 and selling the real japanese kit.
When the kit arrived, the packaging looked real but I was busy so it sat around for almost 6 months. When I decided to install it, I found out (from web/pics) that this is a look alike and not Genuine factory one. Still syas made in japan etc. but the design was slightly different from the real one.
I did pay $180 which is $100 less but i thought I was buying a genuine mtec.
Once installed, it worked perfect for about a month - then left side started delayed start - causing "left lamp failure". but it would come on in about 30-seconds or so.
Finally it quit turning on altogather and when I looked for problems, I found the ballast was ticking (trying to fire) but did not have anough power to start (MB cuts power to defunct circuit at failure) so I started looking for solutions.
I followed the forum and looked at old threads about aftermarket kits. I ended up running a 2000uf capacitor at 35wv from Radio shack ($4.99 each) with quick connect/splice kit ($4.99 each for Qq and splicer) for each side. the process was painless.
Now after $30.00 capacitor install, the light come on perfectly every time.
You will notice that your parking lamps are very bright (inside ovals). Reason is that Xenon cars have a lower power "blue" bulb (same P/N at dealer but vin tells them which bulb to give out. Ask for it by color - like I want the blue parking bulb for my w211 with xenons. Cost was $22 each.
However, the look is now complete. I always drive without fogs here in Houston so I didnt convert Fogs to xenon.
I am very happy with conversion. when I drive, the bumps and pots on roads make the xenon move up and down slightly and you see it move due to xenon' strict definition in intensity. love that affect!
finally done!
