SRS light problem

My SRS light came on out of the blue, took it to a mate with a diagnostic and got fault 9920 "ignition circuit with component R12/9 (drivers side airbag ingition squib) has short circuit to ground"

any idea's regarding this fault before i start ripping the steering coloum to bits??

Car is a 03 E class 270 cdi

Remove seat back and check squib connector to side airbag harness - blue/yellow wiring with orange/green connector.

ok, checked the connector into the airbag & the main connector under the seat, nothing obvious but cleaned em and sprayed with WB40. if it was a dodgy connection, am i right in thinking the light would not go out on it's own and it would have to be reset via diagnostic tool?

Correct, stored fault code(s) need to be erased using SDS. If problem persists, resistance value “may” be too high requiring connector replacement utilizing repair harness part # 0025402305

I believe I’ve repaired this problem in the past by bypassing the X connector under the seat with the w220 X connector repair harnesses. No it shouldn’t drain your battery. This was a repair fix for the 209 clkS as I recall but also works for the w211
