How to Remove Engine Cover on '09 E550

As the thread title indicates, I have an '09 E550 on which I want to replace the oil and air filters. I've never worked on an M-B engine before, but it appears that there is a two-piece cosmetic engine cover that must be removed to access the engine components. The front section of this cover pops off easily, but the rear section seems to be more tightly secured, and has resisted my efforts to remove it with the same amount of manual force that was needed to remove the front section. Can anyone enlighten me on the best procedure for removing the rear section of the cover?

Also, are the cabin filter, dust filter, and combination filter separate items, or do these terms all refer to the same filter? Thanks very much.
