Brake Light stuck on, help!
Drivers side brake light is stuck on with the following error message. "Brake light on" Indy mechanic says it's an electrical problem and suggested dealership. Stealership is saying $2k to repair but didn't say specifically what it was. (my g/f took to dealer, not me).
We did recently get the Brake warning light, visits workshop. We had the brakes replaced, but light returned soon thereafter. From reading the Forums, some suggested a faulty $11 brake light switch. Is this possible? Would the mechanics really not know this?

If it is only one brake light, then it does not sound like it could be the brake light switch.
What do you actually have on? The fault message indicates a back-up lamp is on, I believe in this case it means the rear parking light should be on when you press the brake pedal. But if the actual brake light is on all the time, it sounds like a SAM issue or a wiring issue, a short-cut to power from the brake light wire (doesn't that sound a bit unlikely?).

The only thing that remains on is the drivers side brake light when the car is completely off and locked. The above error message comes on periodically while driving.

honestly I can' say for sure. All I know for sure is the D.S. brake light stays on forever. It will not go off, and I don't know what else to do. To classify it just as an "electrical problem" seems extremely vague especially coming from the dealership

Check out my post:

Fix should only cost you $40 and 30 minutes of your time. I'm surprised the dealership wanted to pull a fast one on you for this. Since I don't see a specific w211 in your profile, check EPC for the correct part number for your car.

appreciate the input. Was that fix for burnt out bulbs or reliving the error message? If the bulb was bad, shouldn't it not work as opposed to remaining on 24/7, or the fact that they're wired in a series and somehow supplying constant voltage to the DS brake bulb

You can't just replace a bulb because the bulbs are soldered on. I remember reading about another person attempting to replace via desolder/solder but I don't think it was worth all that trouble when you can get the entire socket plate replaced for $30-$40.
