Driver seat heater Problem

I looked and looked to see if anyone else had this same issue but came across only one from 5 yrs ago.

A few weeks ago i smelt somethign burning while warming up my 08 E350 one morning paying it no mind i went to work. A week later entering the car from the passenger side i seen a big *** hole in my drivers seat. I have been the only driver of my car since i bought it over a yr ago and I do not smoke. I googled it and i found other people having the same issue of the factory seat warmer burning through. The dealer i bought the car from said the car was out of warranty but they are covering the cost to have it repaired. Beware of your seat warmer. I got lucky.

Thats odd because the heating elements are not in the side bolsters of the seats???

Burning smell, and a lot of heat happened to my wife's 2005 C230. The seat heaters are the wire type, and there are points where the wire is pinched by the stitching in the seat cover. I swapped seat bottoms with the passenger side, and just didn't hook up the bottom seat heater wires on the passenger side. I am lucky that it didn't burn through the seat!!! Hopefully my 2009 will have a better seat heater system like a carbon mat.

Seat heater burn through.....

Happened to me last week.... Noticed seat warmer in my 2005 C230 felt especially hot, left side on the seatback, about 2 inches above my belt line .....

Then I smelled burning.... Turned it off immediately, but not before it burned through the seat, my jacket, and the fleece underneath.... Ouch.

This has been an absolutely carefree wonderful car until this incident....checked service bulletins and recalls and saw nothing. We'll see what the dealer says.... Anyone else experience this?
