retrofitting a automatic climate control in a 2003 e320

Hello All,

I have a 2003 w211 e320 with the regular climate control system in it. I was wondering if it were possible to put in the automatic climate control system with minimal fuss. Are the units plug and play? Do I have to change all kinds of things to make it work? I like the look of the automatic climate control system, so I am kinda curious as to how to go about doing the conversion. Thanks for any input or guidance.

The 211 always has automatic climate control. You must be referring to the 4-zone control unit with a digital display. You won't gain anything from that control unit except the looks but some forum members have done that.

Hello Diesel,
Thanks for your reply. I do like the look of the digital climate control, and would like to install it with minimal fuss. What all is involved with installing it? Is it a simple plug and play deal, or is it a major deal? I don't want to get over my head on this. I have a few wiring and electrical skills under my belt, so I'm not afraid of a little challenge. If you have any instructions or guidance on this, I would appreciate it.

Thanks for the reply konigstiger. I have a problem, I don't have a speaker grill on my climate control assembly. It is all one piece. How do I go about removing that? I have removed the wood trim, but I can't get the climate control assembly to come out.

What do you mean exactly? There are two types of front centre speaker grills, the 2003 model should have the one shown at the link (above), removed by releasing e.g. with cluster hooks. The later one too comes off but there are no catch hooks that have to be released.

Mine does not have a separate speaker grill. It is all one piece of plastic. Do you know what may be holding it in? I've gotten the front two screws off that hold the assembly. Now, it will not separate from the dash

Okay Diesel Benz, now I am beginning to see what you were saying about removing the speaker grill. Question, do I have to use the cluster hooks only to remove the grill? Can I use anything else to release the tabs? Are the cluster hooks something I have to get from the dealer? I have my digital a/c control and am anxious to try it out to see if it will function properly.
