TPMS Problem and need help!

My friend bought a 2008 e350 with tire pressure monitors. The wheels that where one the car where in bad shape so the dealer gave him a different set of mb wheels. Problem is that they did not take off the sensors and put them in these wheels. Now the warning lights are always on and the dealer insist that the wheels they took off had no sensors so now hes screwed. Anyway, where is the best place to get sensors that will work with this car?

You can get them from tirerack.com. Also, any MB dealer should be able to pull the build sheet for the vehicle showing it was equipped with TPMS as proof. Sounds like a shady dealer to me.

Thanks for the reply and shady dealer is an understatement. The sensors from tirerack will be compatible with the MB TPMS computer? The dealer was telling me that I needed to buy there sensors and they are incredibly expensive.

I think Tirerack will sell the correct ones. I know if you purchase a winter wheel set they offer them. I think they just need to send the signal on the correct frequency. Give them a call, they have great customer service.

I called them and they said that they have the sensors that will work with the car. Another question I have an 2007 e350 sport. I do not have tire pressure monitors. Can I add that to my car as well without major expense? I guess I would need a module as well as the sensors. Would it be plug and play? Thanks for the great help!

TPMS is mandatory on all vehicles built and sold after 9/1/2007 So that right there should tell you your friend's 08 more than likely had them.

Your vehicle on the other may or may not. Do you know for a fact your car doesn't have it? Or are you just assuming because you don't see TPMS Sensors on your wheels?

MB also uses/used the wheel speed sensors to monitor the TPMS system. If a wheel was spinning faster/making more revolutions than the other wheels, there's a good chance it was low on tire pressure due to that wheel being physically smaller.

Thanks b16racer, I looked through the menu on the car and it doesn't show tmps as a option as it does with my friends car that does have it just doesn't have the sensors.

FWIW I bought 4 TPMS sensors from Tire Rack last August when I replaced the OEM tires on my '06 SL500. The sensors were $279 total delivered, and work perfectly.
