Worn camplugs

Took my car to the dealership today because it was leaking oil. They said that the camplugs had worn out and replaced them.

My car is still under the original factory warranty (2008 E350 with 40,000 miles) and they said that I owed them $149.96 for the repair because the camplugs are considered a "wear item".

Should I have been charged for this or should it have been covered under the original factory bumper to bumper warranty? Its not my problem that the camplugs wore out. I have no control over how fast the camplugs wear out!

Mine were replaced last year under warranty, no charge. 2007 E350 w/ 24,000 miles. They were replaced with the newly designed ones. Make sure they replace all of them, I think there are 4 or 6 total. The old ones will eventually leak. They are NOT wear items.

If they won't replace the ones that haven't yet started to leak, have them visually show you the ones that they replaced, and where the others are located (so you know where they are.) This way you can squirt some oil on the old ones before the warranty expires and tell them to replace them. They all fail at about 4 years.

Dealer BS Alert!!, they ABSOLUTELY should have been covered. Seals are a wear item and they are covered, read the warranty items. You should call MBUSA and file a complaint if you cannot get anywhere with the service manager.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Normally, after I get service done on my vehicle, I get a survey emailed to me to complete. I was waiting to get the survey so that I could let them know how dis-satisfied I was with having to pay for the cam plugs. I have not received a survey yet, I will wait until tomorrow and if I still dont have a survey, then I will contact the dealership directly!

I will let everyone know what happens!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I sent an email to the service manager and copied the GM of the dealership and to make a long story short, they gave me my money back.

They claimed that they thought my car was out of the original 4 year/50,000 mile warranty, and the cam plugs are not covered by the MBCPO warranty, so thats why they charged me.

Thanks for all of your help and your comments on this!!

RIGHT! And I thought the sky was green. What he was really saying was...."we charged you and thought you wouldn't bother checking, but since you did here's your $$ back."

This is right out of the MB secret handbook.

Glad you were someone suspicious enough to check.

Hi guys,

When you say the bulletin states "they should be replaced under warranty"...does that mean the new car warranty? Or does that mean they actually warrant the cam plugs themselves, regardless if the car is out of warranty itself?

Thanks
