Heater controls upgrade?

I have a 2004 W211 with the standard (non lcd) heater controls two-zone. However my friend has an E500 with the 4 zone climate control pannel which has the lcd screen and works so much better than mine.

Just wondering if its possible to plug and play swap in a upgraded LCD heater control panel. I don't care if the rear vents don't work, i just want the lcd screen.

I have been told the car adapts to it when you plug it in. However just want to make sure before i purchase one.

Kind Regards, Will

I have this one...

I want to swap in this one...

Yes, you can do it. Of course you don't get the 4-zone control because you don't even have all the vents at the rear or at the HVAC box but surprisingly the 4-zone unit is compatible with the vents that a 2-zone car has.

I have no personal experience about this but I've seen a few forum members reports about the swap.

I've been looking online and i see there are a few different types of LCD HVAC's some for the EURO market and others for the USA market.

Will they all work the same. Or is there a specific year/model/country HVAC i need?

Cheers

You do not want to get the 4 zoned one. It won't work in your car.

you wont be able to control the 4 zones, meaning that that the rear vents wont be able to control heat vs AC for each, but you dont have that at the moment anyway

At the moment i have two vents in the back which only have toggle wheels on each side. They both close or open the vent.
