Thumbs down Clicking noise when turning wheel (indicator stalk) gll

So my w211 has developed this constant clicking noise when you turn the steering wheel which sounds like its coming from the indicator stalk. I can also are the stalk move a little when turning./
So I'm guessing this is the problem and it's going to be a costly fix. Does anybody have a fix for it? Or had the same issues. Cheers

This noise is characteristic of any Mercedes vehicle...I have it on my E, S, and GL. Whenever I get a C, GLK, or M loaner, they all have that noise too. I'm assuming you're referring to the really loud click that happens whenever the turn signal is on and then you turn the wheel.

HAHA no, this isn't normal, it basically sounds like somethings gone wrong with the indicator stalk mechanism, so when i turn the wheel (without touching the stalk) it will make a fairly loud cracking noise a few times per lock.

Sound shocking

Mines just developed that problem too. Its as if something is broken, everything works but you can feel some resistance when indicating left. Right indicating seems to be ok.

Mines bad both ways. Sometimes just turing the wheel will set off the indicator.

I've purchased a new indicator stalk so i'm hoping this will fix the issue.

To install (i've read) you need to remove the airbag, steering wheel, and then the column cover unscrews.

Seems fairly straight forward to replace.

My turn signal stalk is starting to make a click noise instantly after I press it down or up to signal. Best way to describe it is when normally pressing it, it a soft blunt feel, now it feels like I am grinding some plastic gears when pressed.

When i opened it up,

It turned out to have a cracked ring that sits around the column, so i had to replace that part and now its working fine

I'd open up and check before you commit to buying either the stalk or the ring.

Thanks, was it difficult? I am a DIY person but afraid to start something I haven't an idea.

I wish i made a DIY of it, its not too difficult, you just remove steering wheel and airbag. The hardest bit is getting a torque wrench to remove the steering wheel nut.

Once the steering wheels removed, you will see 3 torx screws that you remove, then you simply pull the top cover straight off and it will expose this indicator ring, which will most likely have a snapped off corner ( which could be re-glued for a temp fix id assume.

Nice S550 BTW, i just purchased a 2011 S350 and it's fantastic, i should have chosen the S500 though, need that little extra grunt!!

Can you post the part number? Inquiring minds need to know! I've got the exact same issue and I'd rather fix it vs glue it.

Have you solved the issue?
