US-based 2009 COMAND (NGT2.5) Backup Camera Function

Hey everyone,

Should mention that my sig says C350 but that vehicle will be traded in this Friday for a 2009 E350 Sport so the past few weeks I've been cruising the W211 section much more than the W204.

During this time I've been looking at upgrades/mods that I can do to the E350 and I am very excited to get started on my short list.

One area I can't figure out is the backup camera. I've probably read 20+ posts and hundreds of responses on this subject (as I am sure many of you have) and I still can't find a clear answer. FWIW, most of the posts were orginated in '07-ish and have been muddied by either thread resurrection over the years or by input from someone in another country.

My question... is the functionality built into the US-based COMAND NGT2.5 system found in my 2009 E-class which would allow me to enable a backup camera? We have the same system in the wife's 2010 R-class and I can't imagine any difference between the two years/vehicles (other than fitment) or that it would be a software issuse -- I could be wrong.

In my 2008 C350 I was able to go into the Engineering Menu, HU Parameters and enable it. It was very simple.

Running the wires and the camera is a different story, although not impossible.

If there is a thread already out there regarding the 2009 COMAND please post the link. There is certainly a chance that I missed it.

I have a 2012 GLK and have the back up camera in it. My issue is the 'safety message' that say something about the enviorment behind you. I'd like to erase the safety message and I think IMO that it is kind of in the way. Any ideas?

You can try looking in the engineering mode of the NTG2.5 comand by pressing the end call, *, 6 at the same time for 3 seconds.

Check in the GLK forum. If it is possible to disable within the Engineering menu try the hangup, 1, # access combination. Now, there may be a different access combination for the GLK based COMAND (I am only speculating that it is the same NTG4 found in the W204/W212/W207).

Thanks, I was going to try hangup, 1, # like I did on my 2008 C350 (which has NGT4) and hope that it worked but its nice to know the actual combination.

I tried looking in the W251 (R-class forum) as it has the same NTG2.5 system but found nothing. Probably because they are wired with the backup camera.

Thanks guys! I'm a little afraid to start messing with the Engineering Menu, but will give it a try. Is the entry command "end call, *, 6" or the "hangup, 1, #" command? (not sure why this is typing in bold and don't know where to turn it off at-so appologies up front-not yelling at anyone-lol).

Does anyone have the engineering menu for the Command system in a 2012 GLK? The nav version is 2009 I believe. I used one of the above combinations and got into the menu but would like to know what each of the options does prior to changing anything. Also, it appeared that I have only 4 pages in response to the post above. If anyone has a link to the menu, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

You may have much better luck starting a thread in the GLK forum. Not many of the GLK folks will see this unless they also have a w211.

Back to the E-class....

When I picked up my car yesterday I immediately tried the hangup, *, 6 and I entered the engineering menu but there wasn't much there. There was a list of devices/applications - Nav, Radio, etc. It was nothing like the HU menu I found in my 2008 C350.

I then tried the NTG4 combo (hangup, #, 1), to see if there was a another menu but it did nothing.

When I got home I tried the NTG2.5 code (hangup, *, 6) in my wife's 2010 R350, which has the same Nav system, and as I expected I got the same menu. She has factory rearview so I thought maybe in hers there would be a camera option under the list of devices/apps - there wasn't.

So, I haven't given up yet. I'm going to scour the other forums and see if there may be another combination to other menus.

When the wife returns i'll take photos of her menu and my menu showing they are the same, maybe someone will see something I don't.

The reason for posting here is 2-fold. There is not much in the GLK forums and, it is the same nav/command system as my 09 E350, so I was hoping someone on here might be of help as there aren't a lot of GLK's on the road yet. Thanks anyway.

Wasn't trying to be rude. However, the system in your GLK is actually not the same as in your 09 e350.

As I mentioned above, the GLK has the NTG4 found in the 2008+ C-class (w204) and the w212 (2010+ E-class sedan) and the w207 (E-class coupe). Our 2009 E-class has the NTG2.5.

You may have better luck in one of those sections.

NP, I didn't take it that way. Interesting and thanks for the info. I was told by Navtec that it was the. Same. The verison I have is 2011/2012 (V9.0) N.America.

NAVTEQ supplies the Navigation Disks, i.e. your maps & POIs. Totally different than the type of COMAND system installed by MBenz.

Tried the dealer menu this afternoon, Hangup, 7, 9. I got nothing except the ability to view error history and the option to update the system.

I'll keep searching for other codes.

Tried to take a pic of the engineering screens but you couldn't read the yellow sub-menu, probably due to the polarization on the screen. Oh well, wasn't really necessary anyway -- not sure what it was going to show.

http://www.mercupgrades.com/COMAND++...rticle-54.html

Scroll down to COMAND-APS (NTG4-W204 and NTG4-W212)

It's an older article (2010 I believe) so theres a chance, however slight, that the 2012 models have a newer system but they certainly do not have and older system.
