CD changer problem
Had 5 Cd's in the changer. While listening yesterday, sound cut off and got a message like "CD not communicating" or something to that effect. Did the old shut the car off thing, but to no avail. Now when I go to CD the display just says "track" . Opened the changer and no lights are lit. Dumb question, but now I can't get the CD's out of the changer! I didnt' look at the manual yet, figured someone else has had this happen.

Haven't had this happen, but I bet it has something to do with the audio gateway software upgrade you need to do...
temp. fix might be to go to the trunk, and take out Fuse Number SIX, then put it back in and turn car on, that might just reset it for you, again this is temporary fix, get it to the dealer....
let me know

cd changer problem
I have had the same issue. My immediate fix is to access the fusebox located on the driver-side of the instrument panel, take out fuse #6, jiggle the fuseholder block, and re-insert the fuse. This cures the problem. I suspect in my case a bad fuseblock connection. I have not taken it to the dealer yet.

2 days after delivery of my E500 the CD changer stopped working as well.
The dealer had a replacement which took his folks 3 hours to get in and out . I had to wait 3 mos just to get the 6 CD's that were trapped in the unit back from MB.
Derek.

Got the car back yesterday. They couldn't find any problem with the CD changer. I had several CDs in the unit that I had burned. They are alleging that this is the problem. They said that there is a dealer technical bulletin about problems with user-burned CDs in the unit.
Has anyone else heard of this?

Ditto - same problem and same symptom (home-burned CD's) cited as the culprit. I've had no problem after they updated the gateway software (but then again, I've stayed away from the "bad" CD's ).

There was a column in the MBCA "Star" (Jan/Feb p. 76) that CD-R's and CD-RW's may not play correctly. They say to verify correct operation only with commercial CD's.
