2013 ML350, 2006 SLK280
I have a 2006 R350 with 118,000 miles and took it in to the dealer for recall work to be done replacing the cam shaft adjuster magentas and wire harness. I had a p0016 code and they said recall work did not fix it. It is the balance shaft gear. I was prepared for them to tell me $6k to fix, but instead the service advisor said "We are fixing it under warranty so give us 3 more days!" I was floored. If you have this problem check with your dealer first to see if they will cover it.

New (used) C350 owner here, my first Mercedes, and unfortunately I came across this thread after I bought it. Can anyone help me with finding a Data Sheet for it and telling me if my engine is one of the ones affected by the balance shaft problems? Any help is greatly appreciated. VIN -WDDGF56X18F116305

New member same problem in central NJ
taking my 06 ML 350 with 61k miles to the dealer. They started side stepping already since I didn't buy from them and only have records starting at 32K. Do all my own oil changes with Mobil 1 every 5 K since I got it at 40K. So more for them to hide behind. More to come. Hope Princeton Mercedes has a heart and a conscience. Any one have particularly good luck with one dealer vs. another in my area?

New used 2006 E350 owner here. Reading the balance shaft problem concerns me. The engine number is 272972 30 043694 which has the soft balance shaft. The car has 54k miles. Should I consider buying a 3rd party power-train warranty?

Maybe affected?
I have a 2006 E350W4m. Engine serial would seem to fall within the range.
I have 57k on it now.
I will be contacting my local dealer to see what my best course of action should be. (I'm in the Bay Area.)

I am looking at a 2008 E350 4matic with only 30K miles. At 29K miles, the car had the camshaft seal replaced, the power steering reservoir replaced, and engine/power train computer/module reprogrammed by the MB dealer. I have 3 questions and hope you will be able to let me know how serious this situation is. I will get the engine ser no. when I see the car.
Do these problems have to do with the balance shaft issue?
Why a car with only 30K miles had this kind of failure?
Should I consider buying this car?
Many thanks in advance.

I am in the midst of buying a 2007 CLK 280. I would REALLY appreciate if you could check if this VIN number is within the range of balance shaft issues?? Greatly appreciate your prompt response and also the expected cost to fix those issues. P.S. I am in Hong Kong.

Wow speedy response! Thanks very much konigstiger.
So as I read the service bulletin and that info card, with engine 585423 I'm clear because that's above 468993.
