'07 E550 Sport vs E65 Wheel Offsets

This is probably (well almost definitely) a dumb question, but why does my '07 E550 Sport 2WD have a 30mm front offset while the E63 has a 38mm offset with the same width wheel (8.5")? Is it the design of the spokes that allows the wheel to be further in on the E63? Or maybe the AMG calipers are lower profile than my 4 piston 'MB' calipers?

has less to do with the calipers than it does the rotors i think. I believe the AMG has a larger center 'hat' on the rotor that acts as a spacer basically compared to the 550. 8mm really isn't THAT much of a difference, but also look at tire size as that would be another determining factor.

I never even thought of the rotor hat, I bet that's it. So the front wheels are probably sitting in the same exact position on an E63 compared to my E550.

Most of the wheels I am looking at are 32mm and 35mm offsets which is right in the middle, so hopefully that offset will be fine if I decide to put the big brake kit in.

I guess if I wanted to really be **** about it I could get a 2mm or 5mm spacer for now depending on which wheel I get, but now we are really splitting hairs. 5mm is not even 1/4".

in the world of fitting wheels over BBKs, 5mm may as well be the grand canyon.
