E500 2004 vs 2005 & 6
Hi Guys, I'm looking to purchase an e500 4Matic wagon. I've read a lot of posts regarding the common issues (airmatic, radio, transmission, SBC, ETC). I know that 2003 models were prone to these problems. I also know that some of these problems were fixed in 2004. What I want to know, is the 2005 better than 2004 or is the reliability about the same. Anxious to hear some opinions. Thanks

IMHO, 03's were the worst, 04's were only minimally improved due to possible assembly quality improvements, but still used most of the undependable parts. 05's showed some measureable progress, 06's were the best of the old design, and 07's were the 1st of the cars that the 211's should have been right from the start.
Of course, there are people that have had minimal problems with their early year cars... and all generalizations suck, including this one... but if you've got one roll of the dice and you want to err on the side of happiness, get the newest one you can afford.

go with at least an 05, but would recommend an 06
in all honesty, i would recommend to anyone to get the facelifted models (07+) (if they could financially swing it) just cause they were so much more improved and no SBC brakes
