Question AC Smell - Suggestions for removal when out of warranty?

I have had smell coming out of my AC vents for a while. Does anyone have a solution for getting rid of the smell when out of warranty? I searched, and couldn't find many solutions without visiting the dealer. That will cost me a chunk of change at this point, and I am not convinced that they will even fix it completely according to previous threads.

One thing I would do, is make sure that my AC drains were clear(do you notice water dripping from underside of the car when stopped and the AC running)--that takes putting the car on the lift.

There are all sorts of evaporator mildew spray cans available, however I would at least ask the dealer what they recommend.

1. change your cabin filter to carbon and clean out the housing.
2. as stated above, clear the AC drains.
3. use a product to clean the vents like Wurth A/C & Heating System Treatment

If it all fails, then you have to get the vents cleaned out.

Same here

I am having the same problem. It's a repeat of what I had a few years back and the dealer just flushed the system with the Wurth product. It did last a couple of years.

I don't know how MB managed to screw up their AC system to allow this sort of thing to happen. I've had everything from an F150 to a Mazda 626 to a Corvette to a GMC Yukon XL to a BMW 330i to an LS400 and NONE of them ever had a funky smell from the AC (all in the same climate), except for this E320 I have now. Thoughtless design.
