Wood wheel installation

I was wondering if this is at all a DIY or if it's strictly a dealer install? I would guess with the airbag it would be best for the dealer. What are they getting for installtion?

All the wood wheels I've seen for sale were SANS airbag.

Thanks

Peter

Re: Wood wheel installation

I don't know what the charge is, but it took my dealer between 5 and 10 minutes to replace the wheel. The charge should be minimal.

Dealer Installation of Wood Steering Wheel

Peter, I had mine installed by the dealer because of the airbag issue. They charged me 30 minutes labor and that came out to CDN$49.50 at MB-Broadway, Vancouver.

For $50-100, let a pro do it. Have you ever seen an airbag go off? I was standing in the dealer showroom when one went off in the shop out back. It sounded like a gunshot! The other mechanics were laughing their butts off because the guy who set it off pissed his pants! Luckily he was under the dash and not in the driver seat when it blew.

I've heard that people often get broken noses and facial lacerations from the bags going off. Best to be on the safe side.

Peter,

I had mine installed at Greenway, but Sales picked up the labor charge. Parts told me it was an $81 labor charge, which figures to approximately 1/2 hour.

I think the one thing I will miss the most when I get my 04 E55 will be the wood steering wheel!! The whole family thinks it's da bomb (reeks of luxury).
