Replace Entire NAV Unit?

Bought '07 E320 Bluetec 11 months ago, with 53,000 miles. Nice car. Have only used CD unit ( built into COMAND NAV unit) about 7 - 8 times, and thought the eject button was funny with disc not staying out very long before being sucked back in. Last two times was really quick, had to QUICK grab the disc, and pull out... with CD Error light coming on the display screen.

Last night, had to hit eject button 4 times to get disc to come out ( only barely ) and it stayed out on 1-2 seconds. Hit eject again, and grabbed small exposed portion and pulled... CD Error light came on again.

MB dealer tells me I need to replace the entire NAV unit at $4,700 plus $250/hr for labor.

I ain't just rolling over on this!!

Anybody have experience with this?

Thanx

Wow, that dealer should be burnt to the ground. You can buy a brand new OEM unit for less than half of that and just swap it in yourself, it's plug and play as far as I know. Just be sure not to get the 2009 version, which was different and isn't plug and play.

Here's a used one as an example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MERCEDES-BEN...vxp=mtr&_uhb=1

You should tell that dealer off and write on their google review page.

If you're gonna shop around, its not the NAV unit... its the COMAND unit (Head Unit). NAV is in the trunk if you have it.

that's too expensive, you can consider to buy a after market navigation unit which is only $600 or so http://www.cars-electronics.com/2-di...oth_p1382.html

Used head units can be easily found on ebay. For the -08 Model years, there is no anti-theft circuitry to worry about. The entire head unit can be removed and swapped in about 15 minutes.

Use caution when considering an aftermarket unit, especially if your car has Harman/Kardon audio, and if you rely on the teleaid/Mbrace system. The wiring is completely different.

The only "upgrade" I would consider, if you do not use Sirius, is to switch to a head unit that has DVD playback. The "SAT" button is replaced by one that says "VIDEO" for this purpose.
