NHTSA - E gets top grade!
, thanks for the link
Civic had a better frontal rating for both passenger and driver then E class. So headon 40mph collision is safer in econobox than $60000 Merceeds?
I didnt notice that. But arent the two cars in two different car groups?
Yes, because they are in different weight classes. All things constant, a heavier car is safer than a lighter car in a multi-vehicle accident. You really can't directly compare the 2 via "star" ratings.

The frontal crash testing is done by driving vehicles into a barrier. This is the equivalent of driving into an oncoming car of the same size. So the Honda, being a medium, in effect has an easiser test than the E, which is a heavy.
So if you are planning to drive into a wall, you are better off in the Honda than in your E, and it may be fair to say that in this regard the Honda is better enginereed than the E; but the crash results do not say whether, if a Honda and an E hit head on, which car you would be better off to be in.
Although I love my E, and it does pretty well, there are cars in its weight class which do better.
