Itronics bluetooth kit and OEM iPod kit
The factory iPod connection uses the audio "aux" input on the back of the COMAND for the audio signal, and it uses the CAN bus for functionality such as the steering wheel controls and Speedo display.
You could in fact have them both connected at the same time - the switch back and forth is accomplished by using the input portion of the COMAND to switch between "aux" and "CD Changer", where the changer is your new iTronic.
If you have nothing else to use for the aux input, I'd use this method. I have a video player in my car, so I use the aux-in for this and have disconnected my factory iPod system.
The iTronic is worlds better than the factory system at navigating iPod songs, and you have the added benefit of displaying and using the COMAND for the functions, instead of the extremely limited phone/Dash functionality in the factory system. I have noticed, however, that you cannot access podcasts with the iTronic; if this is a primary function for you, you could either leave a separate iPod on the factory line for this, or just stream in your podcasts (assuming iPod touch/bluetooth).
