Sub install
I'll bet this has been beaten to death a million times, but I've been looking on and off for the last 18 months and can't find a definitive guide to getting this working for me. I have a 2003 E55 with HK system, but I'd like to run my own sub.
Is it essential to have to cut wires and use that sound splitter thing that can be bought? I would like to know how/where to get the signal from and also, where on earth am I meant to tap the remote wire into?

Pull up one of the rear door sills and you will be able to find the wires that run to the rear door speaker for that side, you can tap in there and run wires back to the trunk for your sub easily. Most newer amps have connections for amplified inputs so no other box thingys needed.

use an active line converter, such as this one.

tap into the sub leads from the trunk side. the lc2i converter also gives you a remote turn on so you can wire everything right on the sub box, and get power and ground from the battery under the trunk floor.
Working great for me.
