battery red light

battery red light
tonight i was driving home the red battery light came on. i had very little ac blowing no map lights. my headlights did not dim radio working fine and no dimming of my cluster. all of a sudden sbc light came on "stop the car" and "brake failure" lights came on. i was on the highway car was breaking fine. as i got off and stopped at the first red light the car shut off could not start it again. had to have the car towed home. lights still work key fob still opens doors and closes it.
also esp light came on.
the rear battery is 8 months old
i searched the forum for red light and it points to aux battery but i did not read any where about the car turning off. pls help if you can

your right. i checked the the aux bat voltage low very low. main battery in the trunk was 12v. i jump started the car and checked the main battery it was 8v while the car was running.
so i guess i have to change the alternator.
so i guess i have to change the alternator.
