Is the keyless start in the E-class worth the money? Does it serve any security purposes or is it just for show kind of thing? Are there any drawbacks for getting that option?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Worth the money is the most difficult question to answer. Can most people justify paying a large amount of $ to not have to take their keys out of their pocket? probably not. So it is not a dollar and cents question it is more like a Do I want that question.
My answer is yes, as are many others. But yours could easily be no.
It is cool...

The real pro is convenience. Just get in and go. When you get out push the door handle button and it all locks.
There really can't be any cons because you can always use the key like a car without the option if you want.

03 E320, sport package, moon roof, sound upgrade, brilliant silver, charcoal leather, heated seats..
I'd say the keyless go is a luxury item, pure and simple. There is no security feature....oh maybe if you are being chased by thugs you can enter your car faster than if you had to stop, pull out your keys, hit the hole and enter the car to escape.
MB is supposed to be luxury class. Many options are a luxury, some are performance, others are safety.
Is this option worth the money, you ask? How much is a luxury worth to you? If you must eat beans in order to afford keyless go, then don't go there. If you have discretionary cash after ponying up for the basic MB then you are probably making the right decision.

Thanks a lot for all your responses. The main reason I ask for the keyless is to get some idea on how the owners like that particular option, and if it had any problems. But after all your replies, it shows that it is indeed an option that I won't forget. Thanks, guys. Appreciate it.

sorry, im not sure if this was posted or not, but with keylessgo its almst impossible to lock your keys in the car. the car wont let you lck it if the key is in the car. with the regular key you can lock the key in car.

I ordered it for my NAV replacement car.. but currently DO NOT have it on my E500. My NAV car should be here later this week or next week (it's in Jacksonville now).
I ordered it simply to lock/unlock the car without taking my car out of the pocket. 99% of the time when I go out with my family ( to dinner, mall, etc), my 3 year old likes to have me hold him. Of course being left handed.. he goes on my left side. My keys usually go in my LEFT pocket. So when we near the vehicle I have to juggle my son to get to my keys to unlock the car (that's not counting if I am carrying bags of stuff from the mall, etc).
I decided to add it for that reason. if it works as advertised.. it will be MORE than worth it. All options are worth it... but NOT to everyone.

I've got to agree with others in this post. The features that are offered are luxuries, plain and simple. The average person would not spend money on such luxuries, but this is what you get when you pay big bucks for your car.
I did not get this option, but I was adding so many other options I had to stop somewhere. For me, Keyless Go is more of a cool feature than anything else. For others, it will be a real saver for people like Nitro. A lot of the options are extravagant, and depending on how often you use it, will determine whether to get it or not.
Another way to look at is to calculate the total cost of the option, then divide it by the amount of times that it will really be used. With Keyless Go, your cost per use would be extremely low considering the amount of times that you will enter and start the car.

I bought it only because I thought it was "cool". It is much more than that to me now. It is truely one of those "once you have it you don't know how you did without it" items for me. I hate not having it on my other cars. Especially as NitroShredder said, when I am carrying my son, same hand, same pocket.

Either or
Another way to look at is to predetermine how much you want to spend on options and then it becomes more an issue of whether you would rather have keyless go or a panoramic roof, and so forth. Looked at that way then simply prioritize the options that would be of most use/desire to you and get those. This is one of the problems with the E Class - if you start adding all the options you end up with a vehicle that is out of its price point for purposes of resale, etc. A fully optioned E is almost as much as an entry level S.

KG with Valet parking
For those with the KG option - what do you do with parking valets. I typically park in a garage (in NYC) daily and leave them the key. How would this work ? Any thoughts ?
Thanks

For my current car (without KG) the valet key (in the fob) only opens the door - it won't start the car.
Do people with KG leave the entire fob with the parking attendant ?

The metal key in the fob locks the trunk, glove box and doors. You give the attendant the whole key fob, and if you want to lock anything specifically you take out the metal key and keep it with you (and of course you need to lock the trunk or glove box too).

Thanks - sorry to beat a dead horse but one more question - If I start the car with KG and pull into the garage do I need to turn it off (via KG) and give them the fob or just give them the fob.
I'm trying to decide to add this to my Sept. 2nd decade build of an E55
Thanks

I'll try that today.... since my KG works most of the time to start the car... I am dropping off the car at the dealer today to FIX the KG. Ironic.

Bringing an old post to the dead here, but I had a loaner 11' C class with a KG and I really enjoyed it when I took it for a weekend roadtrip. Is it possible that it can be installed seperately after already purchasing the car?
