Newbie Help!

Hi guys,

I have had my E320 W211 petrol model for 6 months now and I've started noticing a rattling/ticking sound. I had it on the jacks in a garage when I upgraded my exhaust system and the guy took a look around for me. Its definitely not the Cats and its not the exhaust or the suspension. I seems to appear only when the engine is running and is constant regardless of whether your in Neutral, Park or Drive. The exhaust upgrade almost masks the noise now, but I'm concerned as the noise seems to be coming from the gearbox area and should really be looked at before something fails. Any one got any suggestions before I take it to MB or an indie?

Can you tell me where they are so I can check...sorry I'm not mechanically sound! The noise itself sounds like a baring is loose and rattling around in somewhere...not sure if that's any help!
