2004 E320 4matic Sedan
Are you sure it even HAS one ?
A cold start valve is a part that does exist, but perhaps not on a W211 car.
I had never noticed one on my car - I may be blind - and EPC just shows the fuel rail with ports for 6 injectors (E320, 2004) and no port or cold start valve. A cold start valve is a special kind of injector and would be on the fuel rail somehow, I would expect.

Lately I have been smelling gas when I start up. It was suggested that I might be a faulty "cold start valve". I did check the obvious places that's why I am seeking your help.

Out Of Control!!
So, the issue is a suspected leak(because you smell something) in the low and high pressure fuel delivery system---fuel lines, filter, injection pump, bla bla
That being the case----uncover the fuel rail and then have your girl friend start the car and while in N, revs the engine while you look for the supposed leak.
