Radio and climate control display question

Have any of you had a problem getting the radio and climate control panels to switch back and forth between night and day modes automatically? Mine just started staying on night mode - dim climate controls and black background radio. Anybody see this problem? And yes, the radio is set to "automatic" on the display setting. Thanks!!

Maybe the light sensor that makes the display change has been obscured somehow? I know that the sensor for the automatic headlights is part of the cluster of rain sensors at the top of the windshield but it might be different from the one for the radio display. Is your windshield dirty?

Our radio is set to follow the dash settings as well.

Ours does the same thing, after going through several tunnels where the radio display dims, it stays dim in bright daylight and goes so dim the HK radio display is not readable. Once we get home and stop the engine and re-start this odd display issue occurs no more, the display goes bright and works as expected. Turning the radio off does not clear this condition nor does changing the headlight setting from Auto to Off/On and back to Auto.

Thanks for the inputs. Car has been shut off and on a few times now with no change. I thought the light sensor was that little bubble in the hood vents, no? I think I have a bad sensor somewhere since it just started happening out of the blue. I only have about 1500 miles until the first service so I'll see what they say. Thanks!

From what I can tell, the radio display change is triggered by all the outside lights coming on/off...., i.e., whether a "manual" light on by the highlight switch or a "auto" on. Mark

The sensor in the hood vents is the sun sensor (for the climate control), I found that out somewhere in this website:

Thanks for the reminder about that website. Pretty dry commentators but good info. Turning the headlights on and off causes no change in the displays so I think it's off to the dealer. Of course I'll still dick around with it to see if I can fix it!
