NAV replacement: CD question

NAV replacement: CD question

For those of you with replacement NAV cars, I was checking thru the Command Operator's Manual.. and it mentions how with the CD changer... if you have "CD text" then the CD title and song names will APPEAR on the display screen.

CD text? what is that? Can you buy CD's today that have this info on them already? Or is there a way to create one/burn it and have the system read it.

Also, I thought I remember someone mentioning something about a DVD manual that you can pop in and WATCH how to do stuff in the car. My car came ONLY with the NAV disc.

Just FYI here's some observations I have noticed on my new E5:
*airmatic "feels" different.. more subtle than my early car
* the ESP and rear power shade buttons are switched
* Airmatic DC mode gets displayed on MFD
* Reminder to close sunroof when leaving car
* Car feels tighter, more hunkered down, quieter.. maybe it's the newer tires (I GOT CONTI's AGAIN!!! ARGH!!).
* Leather seats/wheel feel softer, smoother, more supple than before (considerably).

CD Text is a standard that has been used on CDs for a while now that allows the producer of the CD to encode Artist Name, Album Title, and Track Title information onto regular CDs. If you have a player that is CD Text compatible, it will show this information on the player's display when a disc with CD Text info is played. Unfortunately, not all CDs have CD Text info encoded on them (it's the choice of the folks making the CD as to whether or not they use it). Sometimes, you can identify CD Text encoded CDs on the CD case's back cover or inside the insert (a statement like "This CD contains CD Text information..." may appear).

It apperas that only European vehicles receive this instruction info on a DVD as they have the ability to play DVD Video discs in their Nav systems while US vehicle Nav systems can not.

03 E320, sport package, moon roof, sound upgrade, brilliant silver, charcoal leather, heated seats..

My replacement came with conti also. However, they are an upgrade over those of the original car. They are quiet, smooth, and provide a very comfortable ride. The originals were the opposite. The original conti did not calm down until around 2K miles. The replacements are better than the broken in originals.

i believe if you make your own CD's you can have CD text. on my deck with my camry the mp3s that play have CD text. i know this system doesnt use mp3's, but its worth a shot

Just to let you know from a technical standpoint, MP3 Tags and CD Text info are very different. It's possible that you could have a CD player which will play MP3s and display the MP3 Tag info but not be able to display CD Text info from regular CDs.
