2004 E

Can anyone confirm or deny the reports that the 2004 E's

will have 4matic? I know the 2003 E line up did not have this

option available, but do the 2004's have it?

Also, one of my collegeauges tried to tell me that the 2004's were

getting a "face lift."

As they just facelifted the lineup in 2003 I doubt that they are

seniding another one our way anytime soon. Can anyone verify?

Thanks

OG

it means all wheel drive, not 4 wheel. it is just better for traction. handling will be better, and i also believe the car will be a little bit faster

are you sure that car will be a little bit faster? cause from what i know that all wheel drive is makes your car slower... i can be wrong though, i'm not sure about it. Thx for clarify the 4 matic means..

it should be a bit slower from the additional weight.

Car and driver did a test on the S500 rear wheel vs the S500 4 matic. Both 0-60 times were identical and i believe the 4 matic got better skidpad numbers or something like that.

If you live where there is snow, the 4Matic is a lot better than the conventional 2 wheel drive. My daughter lives near Cleveland and is planning to get a 4Matic next year as her friend has an older 4Matic E-320 wagon and it is fine in the snow.

I have an AWD Yukon Denali that does well in the snow but my E-500 is a little difficult to get used to in the snow. Using the W setting and leaving on the ESP helps but if I did much snow driving, I would definitely prefer the 4Matic.

Last month I ordered a new e500 with 4-
matic (2004). It should be in in the late
spring. The 4matic should be excellent in
upstate NY. I waited a year for mb to
come out with this option for the e. If they
hadn't, i was also looking at an audi and
bmw awd. I'm psyched that mb came
through. Performance should be awesome!

This is Audi's philosophy for building a car.

My dad and his bro leased two E320's together in '99. My dad didn't get 4-Matic, and my uncle did. Living in Toronto we see enough snow and they used to switch cars often and I can tell you without a doubt that there is no difference when you have winter tires on the cars. Both perform equally well in regular snow driving.

Even under serious conditions, their performace wasn't dramatically different. Once our cottage driveway, which has a relatively steep incline, froze over completely and we were still able to get up it, albiet ESP was working overtime.

4WD uses more or less a 50/50 split between the front and rear wheels, which stays the same. An AWD system modifies the split based on need. Typically, in the case of a rear wheel drive car, it may deliver up to 95% of the power to the rear wheels, and can change the ratio as it detects wheelsping. AWD is much better for cars because you still get the benefits of the majority of power going to the rear wheels.
