2005 E320 CDI Vibration at Highway Speed

I have read many posts but have not seen my particular situation addressed. About a year ago my car started to vibrate after about 3-4 miles at highway speed and maybe a mile or 2 of lower speed driving before entering the highway. The vibration started light and quickly progressed to a fairly hard shaking of both the steering wheel and body. After stopping, I pulled the parking brake lever and heard the pedal release every so slightly (the light was not on and this was minimal movement). No problems for a few months and then the car started pulling a little when braking to a stop. Definitely seemed like a sticky brake but the problem went away before I could have someone look at it. At speed, I could not feel any pull. Then the first issue happened again after about 10 miles on the highway. This time, there was no movement of the parking brake pedal when I pulled the lever and after stopping for a few minutes I proceeded to drive over 100 miles with no problem. Then several months later this has happened again. Always seems to take 3-4 miles (10 miles one time) of highway driving for the vibration to start and over the course of half a mile it gets progressively worse until the car slows.

I have had no issues with the engine or transmission and the car brakes normally except I can feel a slight vibration when applying the brakes at high speed.

Any ideas or things I should check next time it happens?

You can check the torque strut bushings. Hydro-mount or partially rubber bushings (145 in diagram) installed at production can deform. If found to be your problem replace with solid rubber for increased resilience – part # 2113331114.

Thanks konigstiger. From what I can see in other posts, this appears to be a potential cause of the pull that I had when braking at low speed. Could this be a fix for the vibration that I sometimes get after driving at highway speed for a few miles?

I am taking the car in tomorrow and will have the mechanic look at these.

Can cause steering wheel twitch with or without braking , pulling, and a host of other problems - just a suggestion as they can be easily overlooked
