W211 E240 Radio Code

Smile W211 E240 Radio Code
Dear Forum,
I have a problem with the radio of E240 W211.
When I turn on the Radio , there is only dash characters displaying on the Radio Screen and on the instrument cluster.
I want to know if there is radio code required for that ?. In the radio manual book there is no mention about radio code.
I have owned the car since new on 2002.
I hope some one could give me necessary information to solve this problem.
