Drivers door wont lock

Hi,

Got a weird one. Today I removed the front door panels on my '08 W211 to change speakers, and then put the panels back on. No issues with this, and this has been done a fair few times before. However, now the drivers door will not lock via the remote, and the car seems thinks the door is open. So, the interior lights are on despite having clicked the lock shut on the remote, and it is like I am trying to lock the car but it is preventing this. I can feel that the actuator doesn't try to lock, but it does unlock. So, if I manually lock the door it is locked, but then it will unlock just fine from the remote. It is like the car is confused about the door being open...?

Anyone else seen this?

Most likely you forgot to put the plastic cover back on where the lock is on the door. That part hits the door switch indicating open/close door. If it's missing there is a "hole" in your door and the door switch pin doesn't get pushed in to indicate that the door is shut.

Am I correct?

I faced the same problem after repairing a lock; (car W211 E200K thought that the door is always open).
In my case, it was the missing plastic cover. I did not realise it pushes the black switch on the car body.

Thank you Mackhack!

Where exactly is this supposed to go?

It goes where the door lock is. If you forget that the indent in the door is too deep and the door switch pin will not get depressed and therefore the lock will not lock. It’s meant to be that way. Open driver door can never get locked so you can’t lock yourself out.
