I wish there was a big notice about this on every eBay page selling fobs. You got scammed, you can't reprogram keys that you buy off of eBay if they have already been set to a certain car. The reason is they use ROM - read only memory that once it is written to cannot be changed. It is therefore programmed to your vehicle and your vehicle only - it's how Smart Key works. Then there are a certain number of fobs per channel and number of channels on your car that they can be programmed to. The only trusted sources for these keys are dealerships and any authorized sellers.

If you bought it new off of eBay and it has not been programmed yet, then I would take it to the dealership to have them program it - my local MB of Littleton dealer does it for free. There is also the method of leaving the key fob in the vehicle for a certain period of time and it will write to the key and sync it with your car which you can find with a quick search. However it seems like you got scammed, I have had experience by this and if you contact the seller they should take it back, if not go through eBay buyer protection that will get your money back and you usually end up keeping the key fob as the scammer will often refuse delivery and it will be sent back. Keep it in case you crack your current key so you can swap electronics. No matter what other conflicting online information says, the bottom line is unless you want to re-work parts of the PCB which I doubt just anyone could do, then you're out of luck.

Depending on the vehicle and keyless go option, these keys go anywhere from $200-350 new at the dealer.

There are loads of key programmers on the internet----do a search, however the learning curve may be more expensive than the dealership.

Thank Mr. Barnum!!

You can't really reprogram these chips. I guess if you were to do some really low-level work on the PCB or change out the CMOS chip on board you could but basically no, you can't reprogram it.

This place is a joke.
You can only buy a new key from the dealership. The dealership cannot "reprogram" another key.

GreaseMonkey summed it up in a straight and to the point way, no you cannot get it reprogrammed. You got scammed, go through eBay Buyer Protection if you have any issues getting your money back.

I ordered one from a dealer. They cut and program it in Germany using VIN #. I don't believe you can do it yourself. It was about $200 for the chrome key (I live in Canada)

That's not true. You can program a key it just takes money, programmer and knowledge. However as you have experienced the least cost method was via the dealership. Good Luck

You can go to the moon too if you have money, engineers, and knowledge.
