2004 E500
COMMAND SYSTEM
I drive a 2004 MB E500. Only modification is remote engine starter. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but my radio goes off after driving about every 30-40 minutes, for about 3 seconds and then comes back on. Is this due to faulty wiring on MB's part, or bad equipment? Is there a remedy to this problem. Also, is there an update for the Command Unit available? And, is there an updated maps disc available for this model year?

Yes updates are available. You cannot just jump to the latest. If you have the original disc then you will most likely need to update to 2006 first then to 2009 then 2012. I just updated to 2012 form 2010.

Do you know where I could obtain these update discs, and how much it will likely cost to update to 2012?

The last update is $249.00 US at MB dealer. The older ones can be found on ebay, but be careful not to get a bootleg copy, only buy ones with orginal packaging.

I jumped from a 2005.5 to a 2012 with no problems..Look on ebay, i got mine for $ 50 !

That's my concern. I will look into it, but it isn't the top on my list at the moment. Would be nice since I live in a relatively new area with some of the outskirts and subdivisions still being built nearby.
