smart key keyless entry

I will be ordering a new key from the dealer. Is it true that once I get the key from the dealer, it will require programming or not. I called one dealer in the bay area and he told me that I need to also schedule an appt with the service dept.

Anyone that ordered a key lately with the keyless option?

thanks

To add to this for people in the bay area looking to order one, here are the prices from 4 different dealers. Prices do not include taxes:

R.A.B dealer San Rafael: $335 (they have a 20% coupon on their website:
Beshoff Motors Capitol San Jose $382
Monterey dealer $300
Palo Alto delaer $299.00

Car that I have is 2004 E500 keyless.

I have not order it yet, still waiting for someone on this forum to confirm if I need programming or not.

Once I get it I will post a pic.

They come pre programmed when ordered at the dealer when you present ID & Registration.

This place is a joke.
Tell the dealer to order you an ADDITIONAL key, not a REPLACEMENT key, and then you will not need it programmed.

Thanks

I just called to find out about a key, they come per-programmed but will need the car there when you pick up the key to "program" it to your car. Didnt say I needed an appointment just some type of verification they do with the key and car compatibility. And yes they are the new style keys

I just ordered a new key with key blade for my 2007 E550 with P2 option. The dealership did not send me the new style key but the original style with "panic" button. I asked the parts specialist and they said that this is what came up from the system when punched in my VIN number. The key came in pre-programmed already. Does anyone else got the original style replacement key too?
