W211 E270 CDI
Exclamation W211 E270: Squeaking steering noise first 5 mins when cold?

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been answered before, I didn't find any other thread to help ne.
So I bought a 03 E270 CDI today, drove 200 KMs fine, very happy with the car but noticed when it's been cold for longer than an hour, after starting up, it seems to squeak quite bad when turning for the first 3 - 5 minutes. Then it stops and drives ok. No errors on dashboard, doesn't seem like there's anything wrong while driving (I've owned one before). Steering seems a little bit heavy, but only a little. It's covered 120k miles. Owner told me he recently replaced front ball joints and something else in the suspension, how true that is I'm not sure. Recently passed the safety test. Could it be the ball joints? I'm kinda afraid to drive it, in case it was a ball joint and would break altogether? I find it interesting how the noise goes away after a couple of minutes...
Anyone have similar experience ?

Thanks

I had a similar issue a while back. Sounded like a belt squeaking. I checked the power steering fluid and it was low. After researching, I bought a can of German fluid from NAPA. I don't remember the brand name. I did not have to put too much in mine, only a few ounces. Dont' fill it all the way to the top because all fluids expand when hot. Check again when it's hot.

I don't have an answer for you, but you're posting in. Thread about squeaky steering. There are likely many AMG threads with answers - or at least better places to post.

Check your lower ball joints. ball joint squeak is a known problem.
