out-of-round wheel could warp rotor?
i had the wheel replaced and MOST of the oscillation is gone...however still a slight oscillation around 45-50mph. the tires have been balanced and have also replaced the front tires.
what else could it be?
before the out of round wheel was put on my car, there was no oscillation at all. a tire guy and the dealer tell me that warped rotors cannot be detected unless the brake is applied. when i apply the brakes, sometimes you can see/feel the steering oscillation more and release...it's still there but not as bad.
A warped rotor will show itself upon braking BUT a rotor that is out of tolerance for balance* will cause shimmies etc.
* Rotors are manufactured to be in balance.
if my rotor is now out of balance, perhaps this is the problem. an independent wheel shop said that my wheels and rims look good. the rear tires were put on the front and i still have the problem. so i'm sure that it's something other than the tires and rims. i guess i need to spend the $ and have new rotors put on the see if it fixes the problem.
the car drives much smoother now. i still have the flat spots after it sits for awhile. i have the mich pilot sports..very thick treads but also very responsive. thinking about getting the bridgestones potenza re750.
