Automatic wipers are too automatic!

My W211 turned over 75000 miles the other day and as a gift to me, it started turning its wipers on randomly. I've always kept the rain-sensing wipers in position one and they've always come on properly when it rains. Now, they are coming on whenever they feel like it (no rain) and making 5 swipes and shutting off. I've searched the various threads, but didn't see anything quite like this. Any thoughts?

Mine became weirdly sensitive to driving at night under streetlights after a windshield replacement.

Thanks for the input. I have to schedule a dealer visit for another reason. I'll see if they know. I'm sure they'll tell me for $300. ;-)

Don't go to the dealer, go to a Mercedes independent mechanic who will give you an honest answer. Maintenance at the dealer - yes, there are a lot of benefits to doing so. However, repairs and problem solving turn into a money pit at the dealership.
