W211 Instrument Panel not working on refit

Last night I removed the instrument panel on our W211 E280 to see how easy a job it would be to convert the speedo from mph to km for export. On refiting the instrument panel I now get a Red Battery Warning symbol in main display, temp display is 85C and all the other lights are on (Engine warning, parking brake, Fuel etc).

Is there something I need to "reset/re-start" the instrument cluster to get it working?

Just to be clear, all I have done is remove and re-fit the instrument panel (this is not a new panel).

Just an up date: I tried this morning to see if I could get some life into the panel but it is now completely blank.
The car is manufactured in July 08 so I don't think there is a dual battery system like the pre'07 W211 models.

Any ideas where to start on fixing this one? Do I need to issue an install command through star or something similar?
