Question gas gauge

I have a E320- 2003- Has any one had a problem with running out of gas? It has happened to us twice now. The gauge says 1/4 tank there is no light on the icon gas tank in dash it just runs out. It has been back to the shop once and they said they reset the computer for the gas tank but it happened again last night. Is this just my car or has anyone else had this happen?

I have had no problem with the gauge. My warning light comes on in plenty of time. Sounds like you have a problem. Should be easy to correct.

My gas gauge on both my original and Nav replacement car work fine. They also agree with the Range on the window accessed from the steering wheel buttons. You might want to check that Range number with the fuel gauge indication to see if they are consistent. I believe they use different circuitry.

I had a problem with my gas gauge that may or may not be related to yours. My gauge would slowly fail without warning- the level on the gauge would drop during a 15-20 minute period while driving, then quit altogether, showing empty. Range-to-empty would also read zero. It was purely random, and I couldn't do anything to make it happen. The gauge would return to its normal and correct display, only to quit again eventually.

After almost two weeks of trying to diagnose the problem, replacing the sensors in the tank, etc., the dealer finally called MB for help. They ultimately determined that the sensors had been "misaligned" when installed at the factory. Apparently, they were turned 180 degrees from their proper position. Once the sensors were aligned properly, the problem disappeared.

Maybe the problem with your gauge is related. If your dealer finds the sensors are not defective, ask them to check the installation/alignment.

No problem with my gas gauge. It just goes down way too fast.
