W211 Bluetec Turbo issues

Hey guys! This is my first post in a while and I could really use some guidance. I have a 2007 E320 Bluetec with over 200K miles on it and it was running really strong for the longest time but recently I have experienced a significant loss of low end torque along with a check engine light. Took it to my trusty Indy in Fort Worth and they diagnosed the CEL as a faulty actuator (waste gate). Since the actuator is not sold separately, the only fix he suggested was replacing the turbo. The quote was $3050 installed for the new turbo. Does this sound reasonable? Anyone have any cheaper suggestions? Another question would be if I were to spend the $$ to replace the turbo, would it be possible to get a W212 turbo and retrofit it? I have heard they are much more reliable AND more powerful ! Thanks in advance for the help!

Depends what you mean by reasonable. Parts.com (which is fulfilled by real MB dealerships) shows the price of a new turbo (A6420902180) to be $2100. Add about $100 in gaskets, seals and torque-to-yield bolts that you will need to replace and ..it's $2200. The turbo itself is relatively easy to get to - no special tools required other than a good set of e-torx sockets, extensions and wobble adapters or u-joints, and I do not believe there's any software coding. I'd estimate 2-3 hours total if you did it yourself over a lazy afternoon.

With 200k, I wonder if there is some temptation of "while we've got the turbo out" - and maybe look at the EGR system, or even the intake flap actuators.

Get second opinion ...I'd agree with 'apl175' about possible cause ..The turbo replacement could be very last option. If I have to bet, I'd put some money on 'actuator flap'

Have you had the intakes changed due to the sticky flappers yet? theres a specific code for those I think, no?

we have 132K on our 07, or around there, so I would like to ask you several questions
anything else need to be replaced on yours? what oil change intervals have you kept? has it been serviced by the dealer? or indy shops? also, any issues with your dpf?

This car has been very cheap to maintain up to this point. oil changes every 10-12k, serviced by the dealer for the first 100k and then I moved to a local indy that is very knowledgeable. I have had the dpf cleaned once, never replaced. Overall, the car has been very enjoyable until this most recent issue which has not been pleasant.

currently scouring sites for a new turbo with no luck yet. i have had the crank case vent valve replaced and a few o rings around the turbo, but nothing else has been replaced up until now. has anyone had their actuator repaired? does that fix the issue?
